The world is everything that is the case

BY KATHLEEN HELLEN

The world is everything that is the case
        From Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, Ludwig Wittgenstein

2.01. An atomic fact is a combination of objects (entities, things)

2.01.1. The ham was plugged with cloves.
2.01.2. The Coldspot was stocked with beer.
2.01.3. A picture of Jesus hung on the wall in the room with the blue velvet couch.
2.01.4. A bottle with a green label: EAU DE LILY OF THE VALLEY.
2.01.5. Carnations last for days.
2.01.6. We sat on the swing on her porch. She used to sing.
2.01.7. They said in spots where Mary’s tears fell to the earth, the first carnations grew.

2.022. It is clear that however different from the real one an imagined
world may be, it must have something—a form—in common with the real world.

2.022.1. Cancer, I think.
2.022.2. She was tipsy on occasions. Auntie said she was a beer-hall girl.
2.022.3. The heart of Jesus was a flame. I curled up on her velvet couch.
2.022.4. Lily of the valley from the Five-and-Ten. She smothered when she hugged.
2.022.5. Carnations are a favorite in funeral arrangements.
2.022.6. She is singing. … I will take you home, Kathleen ….
2.022.7. She was beautiful, once.
